Sure Deer Boots are excellent, but why bother crafting them when you can keep it moving and find Muks or Insulated eventually. Voyager-wear craft whatever you want for learning if nothing else, but really you'll be fine exploring and getting the top tier man-made stuff. No wool sox, jeans and deer pants (or combat pants but you have like ONE shot at finding them at Radio Hut in PV), Wolfcoat and Ski/Mackinaw. My playstyle I've come to accept shaving 1-2C and 1-2kg so I can stay lighter on my feet. Mackinaw, it's purely whether you're cool with.
